During the mid-nineteenth century, Germans and settlers from the Eastern United States started to arrive here. In 1842 this township was named as Sarah’s Grove by the township survey, they suggested this name because there were three families living on this land and each family has a girl named Sarah.

In 1850 during a meeting of township they decided to change the name, suddenly a wealthy German Landlord named as Friedrich Heinrich George slammed his fist on the table and said in German language that “Schaumburg Schall et heighten!” which means that “It will be called Schaumburg” Since then this township was officially named as Schaumburg.

This area is covered with a large forest which homes many wild animals like Geese, Ducks, Quails, Prairie Chickens, Rabbits, Pheasants and Deer were abundantly found there.

In 1854 a small market emerged in this village which includes stores, markets, and some factories. At that time there were few roads existed, and most of them were nearly impassable, so it was really difficult for the farmers to reach large markets in Chicago and sell their goods.

Farmers had to travel 43 Km from Schaumburg to Chicago in Ox or Horse drew wagons, that time the total population of Chicago was 35,000. In 1925 O. D. Jennings who was the inventor of the slot machine bought his house in Schaumburg, where he lived till his last breath with his wife. After his death, his wife donated her house and all the lands they owned in the village.

Till 1971 that land was used a Town Hall. Soon after that automobile became the main source of transportation and this made the lives of the villagers much easier.
